The blade on this sword is in fair condition. It meas. approx. 35.00 inches long. The surface is semi-bright with heavy mottling and very light scattered surface pitting. The edge has several small nicks. The obverse ricasso is marked “US JH 1862” in three lines. The reverse ricasso is marked “MANSFIELD & LAMB FORESTDALE, RI.” The original leather washer is present under the counterguard and is complete.
The hilt has a leather covered grip that shows light surface wear and is minus the wire wrap. Grip is slightly loose. The domed brass pommel cap, three branch knucklebow and counterguard have a nice dark patina and are tight. A small area on the edge of the pommel cap is flattened out due to being dropped or hit by something.
Metal scabbard is complete with throat piece and both mounts and rings. The surface of the scabbard is very dark with moderate surface pitting and a shallow dent. [ad]
