MODEL 1860 CAVALRY SABER BY MANSFIELD AND LAMB

$1,250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: E2783

Overall the drawn saber meas. approx. 41.50 inches long from point to pommel. The blade is in excellent condition. It meas. approx. 35.00 inches long and has a surface that is bright and clean with only minor scattered mottling and small rub marks. The edge has several small nicks. The obverse ricasso is strongly marked “US JH 1862” in three lines. The reverse ricasso has a good but slightly worn mark of “MANSFIELD & LAMB FORESTDALE, RI.” The original leather washer under the counterguard is present and is complete.

The hilt has a leather covered grip that shows light surface wear and minor crazing. Twisted brass wire is complete and tight. The domed brass pommel cap, three branch knucklebow and counterguard have a nice mellow patina. All components of the hilt are tight.

Metal scabbard is complete with throat and both mounts and rings. The surface of the scabbard is bright and free of dents. Surface has some light scattered pitting but nothing that detracts from the piece.

In total the saber gives the impression of having been lightly cleaned at one time. If so it was well done.  [ad]
