Sword is minus its scabbard. Overall length from point to pommel is 33.00 inches while the blade by itself is 27.75 inches long. Blade has an unstopped central fuller approx. 19.75 inches long and a surface that is dark with light surface rust and moderate pitting on most of the surface. The point and the true edge are good.
The hilt has a slightly curved wood grip wrapped in a brown leather that has darkened with age. The leather surface is still in nice condition with light surface dirt and very light wear. It is wrapped with a single strand of straight brass wire. Brass pommel is of the Phrygian helmet variety with a domed cap. Pommel is plain. The plain brass knuckle bow starts at the base of the pommel and sweeps around into a narrow tear shaped guard that ends in a round quillon. The top of the guard is decorated on each side of the grip with foliate. All the brass surfaces wear a dark patina.
Typical of the Boyle, Gamble and McFee style. [ad]
