Sword has 28” blade which is dark with light oxidation and has slight bend. Some small nicks along the edge. Obverse ricasso is marked “US / JH / 1859” while the reverse ricasso has “MADE BY / AMES MFG. CO / CHICOPEE, / MASS.” The stampings are clear.
Hilt is made of brass with a ribbed grip. Single knuckle bow with narrow counterguard ending in a quillon. Light patina on all brass. Knuckle bow has script inspector’s initials. Grip and guard are slightly loose allowing some wobble.
No scabbard.
