Overall the blade meas. approx. 26.00 inches long. It has an unstopped fuller that runs approx. 17.50 inches long. The blade is in very good condition with a surface that is bright with scattered light mottling. There is no pitting. True edge does have numerous small nicks. The obverse ricasso is marked in two lines with “D.R. 1862” while the reverse ricasso has a faint Ames Manufacturing mark. Double stamped over the Ames mark are the letters “N.J.” Heavy leather washer is present at base.
The grip is covered in black leather. Leather surface shows light wear. The brass basket and counterguard are very good. Pommel cap is stamped with “D.R.” inspector’s initials to match the blade. Top of guard is stamped “14M” over “736.”
The leather scabbard is in nice condition and is complete with the tip and all copper rivets. The surface of the leather shows some light wear especially near the lower tip but nothing that detracts. Leather is strong with no weak spots. Brass stud for attaching to frog is present.
