A very nice example that the U.S. Ordnance Department designated the Musician’s Sword, Model 1840. Manufactured by the Ames Manufacturing Company, this sword is dated 1864.
This original specimen of the Model 1840 is in excellent condition. Overall length is 34 ½” with a semi-bright steel blade 28 inches long and ¾ inch wide at the hilt. No rust or pitting to blade. Single edge blade marked on the ricasso with “US / G.W.C. / 1864”. Reverse ricasso stamped “Ames Mfg Co / Chicopee / Mass”. Nice brass hilt with inspector’s mark of “L.H.K.” on hilt. Brass drag with letter “C”. Leather scabbard of black bridle leather is in very good condition with no repairs or cracks. Sword is in very good condition with a semi-bright steel blade. [ws]
