Item Code: E2745

The weapon is a M-1860 Light Cavalry saber. Considered a lighter, more maneuverable weapon than its predecessor the M-1840 Wristbreaker, the light cavalry saber weighed about 3 ½ pounds in the scabbard.

The blade measures 35” long with a 27” long fuller. The blade is light gray with patchy darker spotting. There are no nicks on the edge. There is one worn maker’s mark on the ricasso. The worn stamp is that of J. E. Bleckmann from Solingen, Prussia (Germany). The firm of J. E. Bleckmann was founded in Solingen in 1808 and continued in business until 1880.  Their products were produced in small numbers but all were quality-made pieces.

The grip remains in very good condition. Original wire wrap is tight and unbroken. The brass, three-branch knuckle guard is complete but the outer branch is dented. The brass pieces have a beautiful dark patina. The pommel cap and all components remain tightly assembled.  Leather washer remains in place.

Metal scabbard is complete with drag, two ring mounts, and throat. Throat is missing screw. Surface is dark brown with only two small dents. No wear on the drag. Overall a very nice sword and scabbard with dark age patina.   [jet]
