Overall the drawn saber meas. approx. 41.50 inches long from point to pommel. The blade meas. approx. 35.00 inches long. It has a surface that has moderate scattered mottling and light surface dirt with some spots of oxidation. The edge looks to be free of nicks. The obverse ricasso is strongly marked “US C.E.W. 1864” in three lines. The reverse ricasso has a strong mark of “MANSFIELD & LAMB FORESTDALE, RI.” The original leather washer under the counterguard is present and is complete.
The hilt has a leather covered grip that shows light to moderate surface wear. Twisted brass wire is complete and tight. The domed brass pommel cap, three branch knucklebow and counterguard have been lightly cleaned. All components of the hilt are tight.
Metal scabbard is complete with throat and both mounts and rings. The surface of the scabbard free of dents and is dark with moderate to heavy surface pitting. [ad]
