MODEL 1840 MUSICIAN’S SWORD BY AMES & SCABBARD BY EMERSON & SILVER

$325.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1087-12

Very bright and clean blade with no nicks of any kind on the edge and only a few small rub spots. Ricasso is marked “MADE BY AMES MFG. CO, CHICOPEE, MASS.” while the opposite side has a sloppy “US A.D.K. 186.” The last digit is missing and part of the date is stamped over the inspector’s initials. There is no leather washer present at the base of the blade.

Hilt is made of brass with a ribbed grip and a single knuckle bow with narrow counterguard ending in a quillon. All have a light patina. Knuckle bow has inspector’s initials “A.D.K.”

Sword is mated to a metal scabbard. These metal scabbards were only manufactured by the Emerson & Silver Co. of New Jersey. Scabbard has brass throat and drag with a medium patina. Body is blued. The drag shows numerous small dents and inspector’s initials of “D.F.H.” Brass throat is in nice condition and has a brass elongated stud for attaching to a frog.

Despite being mated together the sword has a nice appearance.  [ad]
