Sword maker mark & military markings [obverse & reverse ricasso]: Eagle motif, “N.P. Ames / Springfield”, “United States / 1833”. Inspector markings “S. Huse/ Newbur[yport]” / encircled “DT” on upper crossguard. Most markings sharp & entirely legible. The bright, spear-pointed blade measures 29.25” in length, 1.75”in width at the base. Exhibits scattered patches of pitting near base, & two or three blade dings; else VG, & attractive. The “Roman” hilt assembly is cast-brass, with scalloped “feather” handles, straight quillon-ended crossguard, & trilobate pommel with eagle shield decoration on both sides, and is held in place by three transverse cross-rivets. Displays light scratching and an attractive medium-coppery patina.

Black leather scabbard is firm & retains its color while exhibiting light surface flaking. Excellent stitching. Solid brass tip throat and tip. Buff leather frog and belt exhibit slight wear & soiling. Otherwise in excellent condition, with fine tight stitching, as are the belt rings, & the two-piece s-connected buckle assembly [right spread eagle, left crossed cannon], which display a pleasing medium coppery patina.

We seldom see complete artillery rigs in such good condition. Superb CW artillery collectible.
