The blade on this sword is in very nice shape. The surface is semi-bright with only the very lightest scattered mottling and only one small nick in the edge. The blade is very clean. One side of the ricasso is marked with the inspector’s mark, initials and year of manufacture which reads “US RPB 1862” in three lines. The opposite side of the ricasso is marked “PROV TOOL CO” in three lines as well. The original leather washer is present under the counterguard and is complete.

The hilt has a leather covered grip with twisted wire wrap. The leather is worn some but the twisted wire wrap is 100% intact. The brass pommel cap, knucklebow and counterguard have a nice light patina and nothing is loose.

Metal scabbard is complete with throat piece and both mounts and rings. The surface of the scabbard is dark with some light wear and surface dirt. There is some light pitting near the drag. The scabbard is free of dents.
