This item is a heavy iron hook attached to an iron keeper by an eyelet and single elongated link. It is used to attach a cavalryman’s carbine to his sling. The hook at bottom has a snap-gate on one side which allows it to attach to the iron “O” ring on the saddle bar of a carbine.
The keeper at top accepts the leather sling. When a trooper is mounted the hook and roller and sling allow the carbine to be raised, fired and released again without losing possession of the weapon.
Item is unmarked.
Metal surface has light surface oxidation. Hook operates well. [AD]
