The famous Spencer Carbine of the Civil War. Manufactured by the SPENCER REPEATING RIFLE COMPANY, BOSTON, MASSACHUSSETTS.

This example was manufactured between the years 1863-1865 and is a.52 caliber rimfire with a 22” length barrel; sling-ring bar and ring are mounted on the left of the stock along with a sling swivel located on the under side of the butt. Also present is the loading tube located within the stock and butt plate. The barrel is rifled with six lands and grooves. Approximately 50,000 were manufactured during the war. The serial number of this particular specimen is 33254, which places this carbine well within the Civil War time frame. Serial numbers of 11000 to 61000 are noted for that period.

OVERALL CONDITION:

STOCK : Walnut shoulder stock and forearm are in excellent condition with some very small scattered dents and minor scratches throughout. Small area of wood loss located at the lower backside of the ring sling. No discernable signs of inspector’s cartouche present.

METAL SURFACES: Barrel, breechblock, loading lever, and barrel band, hammer and lock plate face as well as the butt plate, exhibits a light grayish patina surfaces. A note concerning the front sight, at sometime in this carbine’s history, someone has added a taller brass leaf-blade type sight for shooting accuracy purposes. The lever action and block still operates very well and is still in crisp and tight condition.
