$650.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 172-3357

This small shortarm is a single-shot, .52 caliber, muzzle loading, smoothbore firearm used during the mid-nineteenth century. Produced by an unknown maker, the carbine-like weapon bears no markings and features a 21½” long round barrel fitted with a metal forend. Specimen has a 13” long walnut shoulder stock with a deeply-curved, brass butt-plate. Iron triggerguard is of the fancy, curved design and is screwed to the base. Stock appears to have never been refinished but it does exhibit three small 1” surface cracks adjacent to the frame. Receiver has also never been cleaned and retains light surface pitting just near the nipple bolster area. No original colors. No cartouches visible. No serial number. No rear sight. Does have a small brass blade front sight. Mechanics have no half cock but a full cock. Hammer has a rounded side and is lightly but crudely engraved as are the frame’s top plate and both side plates. Bore is dusty with light pitting but should clean to semi-bright. Sling swivels secured to the barrel band and on underside of the stock. No sling rings but bottom of stock does have a drilled hole near the toe. Single metal ferrule holds the 21” long wooden ramrod.
