US BREECHLOADING M1843 HALL-NORTH CARBINE

$3,950.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 838-07

Presented here is a Model 1843 Hall-North .52 caliber, breechloading percussion carbine, sometimes referred to as a Side Lever Hall. Top of flat receiver is clearly stamped with a five-line address that reads “U. S / S. NORTH / MIDLTN / CONN. / 1851”.  Carbine has a 21” round barrel with two barrel bands that secure it to the walnut stock.

All metal surfaces were originally finished with a brown lacquer, much of which remains. Receiver is case hardened with some color remaining.  Steel barrel has no signs of pitting and it has a nice, smooth surface.  Top flat of barrel exhibits the stamping “STEEL” behind the open rear sight indicative of post 1848 production. Bore is bright but dirty and has very good rifling. Should clean up well.

Robust stock is of black walnut and shows a few minor dings and dents overall. There is a single government cartouche visible on each side of the stock flat near the end of the receiver. Weapon retains its original button-head ramrod. Sling bar and ring mounted to left side is tight.

This model was produced over the longest period of time and in the largest quantities of all of Hall’s many variations. This arm was carried by the 1st & 2nd US Dragoons during the Mexican War and during the Civil War some units from Missouri, Kansas, New York, Wisconsin and Indiana carried them.

A fine, collectible Hall breechloading carbine possibly used in the Civil War.
