Cal. .50 percussion. Serial number 8531. Lock surface has a grey look with faint case color and mottling evident. Some pepper visible forward of hammer. Marked “Gallager’s Patent / July 17th 1860” and “Richardson & Overman / Philada. / 8531” which are clear. Hammer has the same grey color as lock plate but has more age staining patina & pepper. Crisp mechanics. Receiver has some light pitting & age staining scattered with hints of case color remaining in protected areas. Barrel surface is consistent with hints of blue remaining. Bore is strong and bright. Patchbox turning plum. Buttplate is turning plum with some small patches of rust though hints of case color are visible. Stock surface is smooth and dark with sharp edges. Shows little wear or use. No visible cartouche.
