MODEL 1836 HALL U. S. BREECHLOADING CARBINE TYPE II

$3,250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: G3601

Presented here is a Model 1836 Hall breechloading smoothbore percussion carbine. These carbines were made by Harper’s Ferry from 1837 to 1840 with many being issued to the 2nd US Dragoons who were then fighting Indians in Florida.

It should be pointed out from the beginning that all the iron surfaces of this weapon have a plumb brown surface or darker. This weapon has been untouched for years and has not been cleaned.

The 22.00 inch round barrel is .64 and has both an off-center iron front and rear sight. Barrel surface has light scattered pitting and is attached to the stock by a single barrel band. Bore is smooth, dirty and has moderate surface rust. May clean up to better.

The breech block of the carbine is actuated by depressing a trigger under the stock that allows the block to raise exposing the chamber. This works properly and snaps back into place properly when closed. The top of the breech block is marked “J. H. HALL / U.S. / 1839.” Hammer is the correct type with bored hole at center. Hammer operates properly. Original nipple is present.

Walnut stock is the later production without the implement compartment. Stock shows signs of heavy wear with rough chipping found on the left side behind the barrel band and left shoulder behind breech. This wear is old and matches the rest of the stock in color. There are also some other minor scratches and dings. An eyebolt is inset through the center of the wrist and acts as a sling ring.

Mounted under the barrel is a sliding triangular bayonet that is approx. 21.00 inches long. Blade slides and locks into place properly and also retracts.   [ad]
