A nice untouched original Spencer Carbine with matching serial number 59,889. The US government contracted for over 95,000 Spencer Carbines during the American Civil War, with 65,000 made at Spencer’s Boston, MA factory and 30,000 made at the Burnside Rifle Company in Rhode Island.

This firearm was produced during the last few weeks of the Civil War, has sub-inspector marks on parts but no cartouche on stock. Stock is in very fine condition with minor dings, otherwise very sound condition. The .52 caliber bore is in mint condition – six groove that took a .56-56 cal. cartridge. Top flat of receiver has “SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS / PAT’S MARCH 6, 1860”. Some letters not readable. All metal surfaces with nice dark smooth patina, no rust or pitting. All screws in excellent condition. Crisp, strong mechanics; all parts original.
