The Model 1856 Pattern Enfield cavalry carbine was originally designed for the British East India Company and later saw service with the horsemen of the India Native Forces, aka the Bengal Lancers. This carbine is part of the family of weapons from the British Model 1853 rifle-musket design. Carbine measures 36½” in total length with a 21” long round barrel. The smoothbore muzzleloader features a swivel ramrod attached to a swivel link and a full length maple or sap wood stock that extends to almost the muzzle tip.

Barrel exhibits proof marks of a “P” over a “V” over another indistinguishable mark on the left breech area.  Barrel has a small blade front sight. Rear sight has mortised base but the actual sight aperture is missing. Barrel is dark with light even surface pitting along its length. It is secured to stock via two iron barrel bands.

The flat lockplate has a dark patina that nicely matches the barrel. It is marked “BARNETT / LONDON” in front of the hammer with the queen’s crown over “TOWER” behind it. Triggerguard is brass as is the buttplate and nose cap. All wear a matching patina.

Stock appears to be untouched and shows normal dings and dents from age and use. The bore of the weapon is dark and dirty. Attached swivel ramrod measures 20 ¼“ long with a round shaped head.  [ad]
