MODEL 1860 SPENCER CARBINE

$2,950.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: G3734

Weapon bears serial #10687. Carbine has a 22” long round barrel has a salt & pepper look to it and is turning a plumb color original. It has the original folding rear sight has the flip-up leaf with sliding appture and a brass blade front sight. Bore has very good rifling and is clean. Barrel is held to the forearm of the stock by a single barrel band that still retains hints of its original blue.

Top flat of the receiver, forward of the hammer, is stamped with “SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS / PAT’D MARCH 6, 1860” in three lines. Stamping slightly worn but is readable. Receiver, triggerguard, lock and hammer all show a uniform mottled appearance. Action works well.

Oiled walnut stock / forend is in good condition with normal dings, dents and light wear overall. Wood shows no signs of having been cleaned. Left side does not show any cartouche marks. Stock has no cracks. The left side of the butt near the plate shows a number of small indentations. Right side of the butt has the carved initials “H.V.”

The original, steel, tube magazine located in the buttstock is in good, undented condition. Spring is good and magazine fits in the shoulder stock well.

The carbine sling bar and ring are tightly attached to the stock’s left side and shows some pitting. Screws slightly worn. Iron butt plate is dark with some surface rust near top. Carbine retains its single sling swivel under the stock near the toe.

A very good example of the Spencer carbine.  [ad]
