$300.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 422-138

Presented here are six, original, Federal .44 caliber skin-wrapped seamless cartridges of pressed powder wrapped together with its original, soft paper package. The skin-wrapped cartridges are the product of the Hazard Powder Company of Hazardville, Connecticut, made during the Civil War. Considered a common type of ammunition used for cap and ball pistols and revolvers during the War, these .44 caliber cartridges have the lead bullet exposed with its accompanying powder charge encased within the original material of hog or sheep intestines.

These six .44 caliber seamless skin cartridges are in complete condition. Skin casing is dry and brittle. The accompanying, maker-marked, soft paper package measures 3” long x 1½” high and is labeled in black ink with a strong “PRESSED WATERPROFF / CARTRIDGES, / For Colt’s Army Pistol. / Pat March 18, 1862 / HAZARD POWDER CO. / HAZARDVILLE, CONN.” Original brown paper package has been opened but is not ripped or torn apart, and contains all six complete cartridges. Exterior paper wrap exhibits a surface with light grime and soiling. Comes in its own riker display case. A fine display item.
