LABEL AND WRAPPER FOR 10 BUCKSHOT CARTRIDGES

$495.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: M24009

This very rare, Civil War ammunition relic, is an original, printed, outer paper wrapper that once held ten rounds of paper cartridges of .577 caliber used in the British pattern Enfield rifle. The specimen is the actual wrapper found in Dean Thomas’s reference book on Civil War small arms ammunitions. In relic condition, the paper wrap still retains a rough box-like shape 3” wide x 2½” high x 1½” deep which has some of the original twine or string around the form. Accompanying the outer wrapper is a remnant of an original paper cartridge that contains a tiny portion of black powder grains, but no minie ball. Actual printed label has most of the original print intact but has lost some areas to scuffing and tearing. The entire label should read “10 CARTRIDGES / ENFIELD RIFLE AND MINIE / OR RIFLE MUSKET, / CAL. 577 & .58, CONICAL BALL, Columbus Arsenal. 1865.” Relic cones with a modern paper tag and rest inside a small, clear acrylic box for protection.

This pack is from the collection of well-known cartridge collector and author Dean Thomas.
