CONFEDERATE BUCKSHOT FROM AUGUSTA ARSENAL, 1862

$495.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: M24698

This very scarce Confederate buckshot was produced by the Augusta Arsenal in Augusta, Georgia in 1862. These Augusta cartridges are easily recognized by the salmon-colored paper and that they are filled with 15 buckshot.  Other C.S. arsenals used 12 buckshot.

Cartridge is in excellent condition with no tears in the paper. Original strings still remain tied above and below the shot, then closes with the typical folded tail. Cartridges were originally packaged in sets of ten, and included is a photograph of one of these paper-wrapped, labeled sets.

This is an extremely rare cartridge, perhaps less than 30 still exist, as only three packs came out of an Augusta Arsenal ammunition crate many years ago. A terrific item to display with a C.S. smoothbore musket or shotgun.
