This is one of the six inner sleeves that make up a full box of 42 Spencer cartridges. This sleeve holds seven cartridges. These are the Civil War era rounds known as 56-56 cartridges. They are actually .52 caliber. The cardboard sleeve is open in one place to expose a single Spencer rimfire cartridge. An early collector's notation upon the sleeve reads, "56 / Navy & Infantry / C & T". This suggests it came out of a Crittenden & Tibbels marked box. A solid and full "inner" sleeve that is great on its own, or can be used to fill up an "outer" box. [jet]
