SCARCE .58 CALIBER RIFLE MUSKET CARTRIDGE BY ROBERT CHADWICK

$135.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: M25375

This is a rarely encountered musket cartridge made by Robert Chadwick of Hartford, CT.  This manufacturer wrapped and pasted cartridge paper around the rings of the bullet, leaving the nose exposed, and after charging with powder it was folded closed in the usual manner.  The State of Ohio purchased 100,000 of these cartridges in 1861, but no Federal government purchases are known.

This cartridge has had a crack repaired on one side, but is in overall good condition.  Cartridges from this manufacturer are very scarce.  [jet]
