Wooden crate was made for the Colt army pistol. Crate has the original lid, handles and iron hardware. There is a faint maker’s mark stamped on one end which reads, “COLT’S ARMY PISTOL WITH CAPS”. Crate is nailed, and not dovetailed. This crate could likely have been used by a Civil War officer.

Crate measures 16 ½” x 12 ¼” x 6” high. Wood is worn on edges and has some slight cracks and scratches. Hardware has some surface rust. Lid is slightly warped and short. Light lettering on the lid which is illegible. Back of the crate shows evidence of an early repair.
