WAR OF 1812 -- .69 CALIBER BUCK & BALL CARTRIDGE

$225.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 410-135

This is an early .69 caliber Buck & Ball cartridge.  Composed of a .69 caliber round ball with three .31 caliber buckshot on top.  Wrapped in cartridge paper and tied with string between each portion.  The cartridge paper is in good condition and features a folded tail at the bottom.  Paper is dirty and covered in what looks like black powder dust. This cartridge was acquired with another cartridge constructed out of an 1814-dated newspaper (see #410-134). That fact and the string and cartridge construction suggest this, too, is an 1812-era cartridge. A very good specimen of an early multi-projectile round used in smoothbore muskets.  [jet]
