Dated 1847, by Batty. Brass plated copper flask designed to accompany the M1841 “Mississippi” rifle made famous by Jefferson Davis’ regiment during the Mexican War. Measure 9.25” in length, 4” in width and 1.5” in depth. Embossed on both sides with the hand-shake emblem surrounded by stars that also adorned Indian peace medals of the time. Above is a shield-breasted eagle w/out-stretched wings; below is a US shield w/arms.
Flask is in fine condition overall; entirely dent free, w/crisp markings and detail. Exhibits darkened patina w/light film of verdigris on one side which in no obscures its detail. Nozzle powder lever moves smoothly and freely. Its condition and 1847 Mexican War date makes exceptionally desirable….for Mexican war buffs and Mississippi rifle aficionados. Superb collectible. [jp]
