Paper cartridge containing .54 caliber round ball and gun powder, wrapped in U.S. regulation style. The ball was rolled in tan cartridge paper, tied with twine above and below, the tube filled with gun powder and the bottom end closed with a series of folds to form a tail that was folded up along the body of the cartridge.

This type of cartridge was used in M-1842 single shot pistols. Paper remains in very good condition. [jet]
