Empty package for Colt’s .36 caliber revolver cartridges. This is a drilled wood block that was split in half and wrapped with a printed paper label. This type of packaging follows Colt’s patent of 1859 utilizing a tear-string type device of string or wire.
Split wood block remains in good shape. Approximately half of the printed paper label is missing on the front side. All that remains on the front is the “REVOLVING BELT PISTOL” portion and Colt’s address below that. Wrapper on back and sides is complete although blank. Thin wire that facilitated opening remains.
Split wood pack is still very good for cased revolver or as display example of Colt’s patent #23,230 of March 15, 1859. [jet]
