Employed in the Union cavalry’s widely used breech-loading Spencer repeating carbine, this .52 caliber, brass rimfire metallic cartridge is in excellent original condition. Artifact features a conical-shaped lead bullet seated on a brass casing. Seating is very tight and strong. Known also to collectors as the 56-56 Spencer metallic cartridge, it was used in the Civil War M1860 carbine and rifle. Brass casing has a dark bronze patina with no dents or dings. Lead bullet wears a dark gray coloring. This is a fine example of a Civil War Spencer carbine brass metallic cartridge.
