ORIGINAL .31 CAL PRESSED POWDER SKIN CARTRIDGE IN ITS PARTIAL WOOD BLOCK

$25.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 422-52

Presented here is an original, unopened Federal .31 caliber skin-wrapped seamless, pressed powder cartridge together with a large portion of its original wood block holder. The skin-wrapped cartridge appears likely to be a Civil War era product and was considered a common type of ammunition used with cap and ball pistols and revolvers during the time. This .31 caliber cartridge has the bullet exposed with its accompanying powder charge still tightly encased within the original case material of hog or sheep intestines tightly secured with thin twine. This pressed paper skin cartridge for the cap and ball sidearm is in excellent condition and rests in its canoe-like wood block secured with strips of old masking tape. Comes in its own clear coin tube. A fine, seldom seen piece of ammunition from the Civil War era.
