A CLASSIC CIVIL WAR THREE-SCREW COLT MODEL 1860 ARMY REVOLVER

$1,975.00 SOLD

Item Code: 123-7420

This original cap and ball percussion sidearm is a classic Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in very good overall condition. These weapons were in production from 1860 through 1873 and were the successor to the Colt Third Model Dragoon pistols. The Colt Army revolver was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 127,000 revolvers acquired by the Union government during the conflict.

This government inspected sidearm is a .44 caliber, three-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and a 8” long barrel. Grips are original one-piece walnut in good condition and exhibit two thin but visible government inspector’s cartouches. All gunmetal has been lightly cleaned and exhibits a pleasing mellow mix of patina and medium gray coloring. No original case colors on the frame, hammer or lever. Sidearm has a brass trigger guard and a steel backstrap with a small screw in the upper neck area along with two small drilled holes in the buttplate, possibly for a lanyard attachment. This Colt exhibits all matching numbers of 92590, likely from the 3rd or 4th qtr of 1863. Barrel, frame, trigger guard, buttplate, cylinder, wedge and the spline all feature the number. Black walnut grips exhibit two thin notches.

This martial weapon is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and a small notch in the backstop. Maker address on the barrel top is very good and reads “ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW- YORK U. S. AMERICA”. Over 90% of the cylinder scene remains easily visible. Revolver mechanics good overall. Original screws not buggered up. Black walnut grips show three medium size chips at the base of the right grip, else all tight. The “COLTS / PATENT” mark on the left side of the frame is sharp. This war production Colt Model 1860 Army revolver is a very good representative sidearm of the Federal mounted forces during the Civil War at a great price.
