$2,395.00 SOLD

Item Code: 31-1530

This cap and ball percussion sidearm is a Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in good overall condition. These weapons were in production from 1860 through 1873 and were the successor to the Colt Third Model Dragoon pistols. The Colt Army revolver was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 127,000 revolvers acquired by the Union government during the conflict.

This sidearm is a .44 caliber, three-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and the early 8” long barrel. All gunmetal components have been cleaned and exhibit a mottled gray finish with moderate scattered rust pitting overall. No original colors on this sidearm. Revolver has matching numbers #120250 on the barrel, frame, triggerguard, iron butt strap, cylinder, and wedge and on the spline. Serial #dates the manufacture in the 3rd / 4th quarter of 1863. Piece is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and a small notch in the backstrap. Mechanics are strong.

Barrel address is thin and reads “ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW YORK U S AMERICA”. Traces of the cylinder naval scene remain visible but much has been worn or pitted away. “COLTS / PATENT” mark on the left side of the frame is good. All nipples are intact, no chips. Safeties all hammered down. Sidearm shows numerous sub-inspector stampings on major components. Original grips are one-piece, unvarnished walnut in very good condition with two government inspector’s cartouches. Screws not buggered. A clean and tight Colt Army .44 cal revolver that was there.
