COLT MODEL 1878 “FRONTIER” DOUBLE ACTION PRESENTATION REVOLVER

$2,000.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 740-54

One of Colt's first double action revolvers, this firearm was presented from Sir Winston Churchill to Dr. Homer Knight, one time Dean of Westminster College in Missouri.  On March 5, 1946, Churchill gave a now famous speech to a crowd of 40,000, commonly referred to as the “Iron Curtain” speech. Entitled “Sinews of Peace”, many point to this speech as the beginning of the Cold War.

Revolver is finished in nickel, with nicely checkered wood grips, 5 1/2" barrel, good bore and working action. Condition is very good with nickel lifting and flaking around cylinder and muzzle, and pin prick pitting just starting on side plate. It has the usual Colt barrel markings with the addition DEPOT 14, PALL MALL LONDON and British proofmarks. Also is marked L8948 stamped on the frame.  Engraved on the inside the frame under the grips is WINSTON S. CHURCHILL TO HOMER KNIGHT. Documentation contained in softcover booklet.
