REPRESENTATIVE CIVIL WAR THREE-SCREW COLT MODEL 1860 ARMY REVOLVER

$2,350.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 777-01

This cap and ball percussion sidearm is a Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in very good overall condition. These sidearms were in production from 1860 through 1873 and were the successor to the Colt Third Model Dragoon pistols. The Colt Army revolver was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 127,000 revolvers acquired by the Union government during the conflict.

This government sidearm is a .44 caliber, three-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder, an 8” long barrel and mis-matched serial numbers. The six-digit number (#135914) appears on the barrel, cylinder, frame, trigger guard, buttstrap, and spline. Wedge is an original replacement and bears number 5087. Grips are original one-piece walnut in very good condition save for a small corner chip at inside grip. Two light inspector’s cartouches visible in grips. All gunmetal exhibits old cleaning and wears a medium to dark gray finish with scattered spots of oxidation and light pitting overall. No original case colors.

Cylinder bears a good cylinder scene. Sidearm is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and a small notch in the backstop indicating a martial arm. Barrel address is quite thin and reads “ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW YORK AMERICA”. The revolver mechanics are crisp and shows strong indexing. “COLTS / PATENT” mark on the left side of the frame strong but the “P” is light. Various sub-inspector marks on some of the major components. Screws very good, not buggered.

Of late 1863 production, this Colt Model 1860 Army war revolver is a very nice representative Civil War sidearm.
