IRON FRAME COLT MODEL 1849 POCKET REVOLVER IN GOOD CONDITION

$895.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 729-125

Presented here is a seldom seen, iron frame, Colt cap and ball pistol commonly referred to as the 1849 Pocket Model revolver. This personal sidearm, in good original condition throughout, bears all matching serial numbers of #153659 indicating a production time in the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 1859. All gunmetal has no original colors visible and has been moderately cleaned. Revolver is mechanically tight with fine crisp action. Very good original one-piece walnut grips with original varnish that shows light to moderate scuffing. Grips have slight wear at both side edges. Iron triggerguard.

This Colt handgun features a four-inch long barrel matched to a .31 caliber, five-shot cylinder that retains absolutely no trace of the roll pressed engraving featuring the ‘stagecoach holdup’ scene. All nipples strong and unbroken. All cylinder safety pins completely hammered down. Sidearm exhibits matching serial numbers (#153659) including loading lever, barrel, wedge, frame, triggerguard, butt strap, and spline. Sans cylinder. A thin two-line address “ADDRESS SAML COLT / NEW YORK CITY” on top flat of barrel. The standard “COLTS / PATENT” visible on the left side of the frame. Sub inspector mark “H” on left shoulder of triggerguard. Screws not buggered up.

Called the successor to the Baby Dragoon, the Model 1849 Pocket was a small version of the Model 1851 Navy revolver and proved ever popular through its end of production in 1873. This original iron framed, Colt .31 caliber Pocket Revolver is a good looking pre-Civil War specimen of a very popular percussion firearm.
