Lockplate dated “1837 / “Asa Waters / Milbury, MS.,” with accompanying eagle motif. .54 Cal, smoothbore. 8.5” barrel, 14” overall length, w/swivel style steel ramrod. This model was the last U.S. martial pistol produced in the flintlock ignition system, and was as well as being the standard issue handgun for the Mexican War. Barrel inspector markings: “U.S. / JH/ P”, with sub inspector “H” and “A” on left receiver slat and trigger guard, two left wrist inspector cartouches, all markings crisp and entirely legible. Ironwork bright with minor scratches, case-hardened parts good. Wooden stock & butt displays moderate nicks consistent with age and usage. Clean bore, hammer functional at half and full cock. Overall, VG plus and highly attractive. Superb martial flintlock collectible.
