MODEL 1842 ASTON PISTOL DATED 1848

$1,295.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 172-3388

This weapon is a .54 smoothbore with an 8.50 inch round barrel and a brass blade front sight.

The wood stock is in very nice condition. It has a smooth semi-dark surface with only minor scratches from use and storage. There are no chips or cracks. The side opposite the lock has two cartouche marks. One is very strong while the other is weak. Barrel is a plumb brown color and is marked with a “US” over “SM” over a “P” at the breech. Barrel date is present but faint with only the two center numbers being visible. The bolster retains the original nipple which shows wear and dirt from age and use. The ramrod is attached to the barrel by a swivel. Both the exposed portion of the ramrod and the swivel have a dark patina to match the barrel.

All the furniture on the pistol is brass. The single barrel band with integral escutcheon is brass as is the trigger guard and butt-cap and spine. The lock and hammer are dark to match the other iron surfaces. The lock is marked forward of the hammer with “US” over “H. ASTON” while behind the hammer is “MIDDTN / CONN / 1848” in three lines. The trigger is blued and retains much of its original color. Hammer works properly holding at half and full cock and falling when the trigger is squeezed.

Overall the weapon has a nice look to it with a patina on both the brass and iron that is matching and pleasing to the eye. It should also be mentioned that all screw heads are in good condition as well and show no signs of wear.

These pistols were produced between 1845-1852.
