$895.00 SOLD

Item Code: 172-3664

This late war Colt sidearm is a .36 caliber Colt Model 1862 Police revolver. Considered by many gun collectors to be the pinnacle of the Colt factory’s streamlined revolver design. The five-shot capacity, cap and ball weapon has matching serial number 24209 on its barrel, frame, and triggerguard but the brass backstrap bears serial number 222533. Gunmetal wears a mix of dark gray and patina with light salt and pepper pitting. The rebated, half-fluted cylinder has light pitting. All safety pins hammered down. The revolver’s patent mark “PAT SEP 10TH 1850” is visible on one cylinder flute. Frame is matched to a 6½” long, round barrel fitted with a creeper-style loading lever. A clear “ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW YORK U.S. AMERICA” marks the top of the barrel. Standard “COLTS / PATENT” is stamped on the left side of the frame. Faint stamp “36 CAL” found on brass triggerguard. Revolver mechanics strong. Grips are of one-piece, unvarnished walnut, strong and tight and exhibit just slight wood shrinkage. Brass butt strap shows some of the silver-plated wash near hammer area. Frame screws are good and not buggered up. This original Police Revolver is a nice specimen of a Colt percussion firearm at a reasonable price.
