Presented here is a classic Colt percussion pistol commonly referred to as the 1849 Pocket Model Revolver. This personal sidearm in original condition throughout, bears matching serial numbers except for the wedge pin which is acceptable. Serial number is 983 on the wedge pin and 6319 on the rest of the weapon. The latter serial number indicates a production time in the 3^rd or 4^th quarter of 1853. Metal surfaces have lost their original finish throughout and the weapon is a “gun metal gray” with light scattered mottling and light scattered surface pitting. Revolver is mechanically sound with an action that is sloppy. Very good one-piece walnut grips with almost all original varnish. No trace of the silver-plated wash can be seen on the triggerguard.

This Colt handgun features a 4 ½ inch long barrel matched to a .36 caliber, five-shot cylinder that has no cylinder scene remaining. All nipples are present and unbroken. Cylinder safety pins all hammered down. A complete stamping of “ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW YORK U S AMERICA” marks the top flat of barrel. The standard “COLTS / PATENT” visible on the left side of the frame along with “36 CAL” on triggerguard. Screws not buggered up.

Called the successor to the Baby Dragoon, the Model 1849 Pocket was a small version of the Model 1851 Navy revolver and proved ever popular through its end of production in 1873.
