EARLY FOUR-SCREW COLT M1860 ARMY REVOLVER

$3,250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: G3506

This percussion revolver is an early four-screw Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army in very good condition. The Colt Army revolver was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 127,000 revolvers acquired by the Union government during the conflict.

This sidearm is a .44 caliber, four-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder that retains 95% of the cylinder scene and all original nipples. Stop pins are worn down. Round barrel is 8.00” long with a strong barrel stamp of “- ADDRESS COL. SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA -.” Bore is good with a light ring of dirt about a third of the way down the barrel. May be light pitting.

Grips are original one-piece black walnut in good condition. No visible cartouche. Minor edge chipping at the inside left corner and several dents in wood at bottom. All gun metal has acquired a pleasing, gray patina scattered with spots of oxidation. Sidearm has matching serial numbers of 20220 on all major components including the wedge showing weapon was produced in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 1861.

Weapon is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and the small notch on the backstop indicating a martial arm. Revolver mechanics are excellent, crisp and tight. “COLTS / PATENT” stamped on the left side of the frame is clear. Frame screws good. One shows light wear.

An early Colt Model 1860 Army revolver and a nice representative sidearm of the Civil War.
