COLT MODEL 1849 POCKET REVOLVER WITH MATCHING NUMBERS

$895.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: G3505

Presented here is a classic Colt pistol commonly referred to as the 1849 Pocket Model Revolver.

This personal sidearm bears matching serial numbers except for the wedge pin which looks to be an ill-fitting period replacement. The serial #76175 indicates a production time in the 3rd quarter of 1853. Gunmetal has hints of original bluing on the barrel and cylinder. No casehardening visible on frame. Revolver action is sloppy. Hammer goes ¾ of the way back before hitting the half-cock setting. Holds full cock and indexes properly. Good walnut grips with almost no varnish remaining. Shows very slight edge wear at the butt. All traces of silver-plated wash on the triggerguard and grip frame is gone. Bore is clean but slightly worn.

This Colt handgun features a six-inch long barrel matched to a .31 caliber, five-shot cylinder that retains approx. 10% of the stagecoach holdup scene. All nipples strong and unbroken. Cylinder safety pins all hammered down. A readable “ADDRESS SAML COLT / NEW YORK CITY” in two lines marks the top flat of barrel. The standard “COLTS / PATENT” visible on the left side of the frame. Screws show light wear.

Called the successor to the Baby Dragoon, the Model 1849 Pocket was a small version of the Model 1851 Navy revolver and proved ever popular through its end of production in 1873. This original .31 caliber Pocket Revolver is a passable specimen of a very popular Colt percussion firearm.
