Item Code: G3508

Presented here is a classic Colt pistol commonly referred to as the 1849 Pocket Model Revolver.

The serial #257032 indicates a production time in the 1st quarter of 1864. Numbers match on all pieces including the wedge but it is worn off the cylinder. Gunmetal throughout is turning a plumb brown color with scattered spots of dark discoloration. Very light casehardening visible on frame. Revolver action is good. Cylinder indexes properly. Walnut grips have almost no varnish remaining. Grip on right side has some white discoloration while the toe of the grip on the right side has been repaired with wood putty. Triggerguard and grip frame are showing all brass. The standard “COLTS / PATENT” visible on the forward left side of the frame and “31 CAL.” at rear of triggerguard. Screws show light wear.

This Colt handgun features a six-inch long barrel matched to a .31 caliber, six-shot cylinder that retains approx. 75% of the stagecoach holdup scene. All nipples strong and unbroken. Cylinder safety pins all hammered down. A readable “ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW YORK U S AMERICA” marks the top flat of barrel. Bore has good rifling but is dirty and has some light pitting.

Called the successor to the Baby Dragoon, the Model 1849 Pocket was a small version of the Model 1851 Navy revolver and proved ever popular through its end of production in 1873. This original .31 caliber Pocket Revolver is a passable specimen of a very popular Colt percussion firearm.
