US MODEL 1860 COLT ARMY REVOLVER IN VERY FINE CONDITION

$3,695.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 172-3995

A muzzle-loaded cap and ball, .44 caliber single action revolver used during the American Civil War. Manufactured by Colt’s Manufacturing Company between 1860 – 1873. Over 200,000 were produced during this time, with the US Government purchasing approx. 130,000 firearms used as a sidearm by cavalry, infantry and artillery units.

This Colt .44 caliber Army Model was the most widely used revolver in the Civil War. It was a six shot, rotating rebated cylinder engraved with the famous Texas Navy Mexican scene, which occurred on May 16, 1843.

The cylinder scene is very strong over the ration cylinder. Engagement date is faint but visible. “Colt’s Patent No. 6413 / Patented Sept 10th 1858” very strong.

Serial number 106413 all matching including wedge and grips. Manufactured in 1863, 65,000 Colts were produced that  year. Single wood walnut grip has a single government cartouche visible on each side. Very minor chip bottom front of grip.

“Colt’s Patent” on frame very sharp, as is the barrel address, “Address Col. SamL Colt New-York U. S. America”.

Mechanically perfect, all parts and screws original except wedge screw which is a modern reproduction. Metal is very smooth with a nice even olive patina. Loading lever works perfectly.

A nice example getting difficult to find.
