CIVIL WAR THREE-SCREW CIVIL WAR THREE-SCREW COLT MODEL 1860 ARMY REVOLVER

$1,895.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 172-4082

This percussion sidearm is a Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in good overall condition. The Colt Army revolver was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 127,000 revolvers acquired by the US government during the conflict.

Sidearm is a .44 caliber, three-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and the 8” long barrel. All gunmetal components exhibit a dark gray finish with numerous small dings and dents especially on the barrel and around the wedge. Hints of original colors remain on barrel and frame. Revolver has matching numbers #97057 on the barrel, frame, triggerguard, iron butt strap, and cylinder. Wedge is a modern replacement. Serial # dates the manufacture in the 1st quarter of 1863. This martial arm is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and a small notch in the backstop. Mechanics are good. Bore is good but dirty. No pitting.

Strong barrel address reads “ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW YORK U S AMERICA.” Approx. 60% of the cylinder naval scene remains. “COLTS / PATENT” mark on the left side of the frame is good.  All nipples are reproductions. Safeties all hammered down. Sidearm shows a number of sub-inspector stampings on major components. Original grips are one-piece varnished walnut in good condition. Grips also retain two government inspector’s cartouche stamps, thin but still visible. Screws are slightly buggered.

A clean, original Colt Army .44 revolver.   [ad]
