THREE-SCREW M1860 ARMY COLT REVOLVER

$4,975.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 31-1555

A cap and ball percussion sidearm, this specimen is a complete Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in exceptional original condition. In production from 1860 through 1873, these handguns were the successor to the Colt Third Model Dragoon pistols. The Model 1860 Army was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 127,000 Colt revolvers acquired by the Union government during the conflict.

This revolver is a government-inspected, .44 caliber, three-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and an 8” long barrel. Strong, bright bore. Grips are original one-piece walnut in excellent condition with two clear government inspector’s cartouches. Barrel exhibits much of its original bluing with just scattered spots of oxidation overall. It does show some light, minor dings at the wedge area. Revolver has matching serial numbers #134996 on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt strap, cylinder, and wedge. Serial # dates the manufacture in the latter portion of 1863.

Sidearm is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and the small notch on the base of the butt plate. Mechanics are perfect. Barrel address is clear and sharp. Reads “ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW - YORK U.S. AMERICA”. Cylinder scene is remarkably strong and in detailed complete condition. The “COLTS / PATENT” mark on the left side of the frame shows wear to the lower half. All nipples original and in fine condition. All cylinder safeties still protrude. Barrel, cylinder, triggerguard components, and backstrap all show sharp sub-inspector stampings. All screwheads are in very good condition. A classic, wartime production, three-screw Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in remarkable condition.  [jet]
