The 4^th model 1851 Colt Navy is a 36 caliber, 6 shot cylinder with a 7-½ inch octagon barrel and an attached loading lever. Serial numbers began at number 85000 and ended around number 215348. Offered is serial numbered 116131 which was manufactured in 1861. The barrel markings are ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK U.S. AMERICA and the left side of the frame is marked COLTS / PATENT. The cylinder also has a faint engraved cylinder scene of a battle between the Texas Navy and the Mexican Navy, and is also marked COLTS PATENT and the serial number, which is strong. The grip straps were made of brass plated with silver but the silver is gone. The original grips were one piece of varnished walnut. Colt stamped the serial number on the barrel, frame, cylinder, trigger guard, back strap and wedge and they all match. The fourth model is recognizable by the larger rounded brass trigger guard. It has a gunmetal gray patina throughout. Action is functional and tight.   [ff]
