REMINGTON NEW MODEL ARMY REVOLVER

Item Code: 929-01

This is an example of the famous Model 1858 Remington Army Revolver. This is a percussion, six-shot, .44 caliber revolver with an 8” octagonal barrel. There are no maker’s markings remaining on the top flat of the barrel.  Bore is clear with good rifling. Approximately 122,000 of these were manufactured between the years 1863-1873. This particular pistol is serial numbered 144441. That number appears under the barrel and on the frame under the grips. The actions of both the hammer pull and cylinder are crisp and strong. Cylinder is unmarked and features safety notches between cones. All of the percussion nipples are present and in good order. All gun metal wears a matching dark patina. A few scattered dings are on the frame between the loading lever and the cylinder. Brass trigger guard also has an original dark patina. Walnut grips are original and in fair condition; the right grip has a crack running down from the screw. The crack was probably caused by over tightening the screw holding the two pieces together.  Overall this is a nice, complete specimen of a Civil War-era Army revolver.   [jet]
