MODEL 1851 COLT NAVY (THIRD MODEL)

$3,200.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 384-12

This is a beautiful Model 1851 Colt Navy revolver. It is a .36 caliber revolver with 6 shot cylinder, a 7 ½” octagonal barrel with attached loading lever, brass frame with round trigger guard. Serial numbers for this model began at 4200 and ended around number 85000. This specimen is serial number 39568 which was manufactured in late 1854. The top of the barrel is marked “ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY” and the left side of the frame is marked COLTS / PATENT. The cylinder features the complete engraved cylinder scene of a battle between the Texas Navy and the Mexican Navy, and is also marked COLTS PATENT and the complete serial number. All cones are in good shape. Safety pins are mostly flattened. The grip straps were made of brass plated with silver. Much of the plating remains with the exception of the butt and backstrap. The original grips are one piece varnished walnut. Colt stamped the serial number on the barrel, frame, cylinder, loading lever, trigger guard, back strap, and wedge and they all match.  Mechanically perfect.  Gun metal is clean with much original blur on barrel and loading lever, cylinder, and frame with a nice gray color. Brass remains plated for most part but is dull yellow where plating is worn away.  Wood shows minor dings, with some wear at the butt.

An original and complete model 1851 Colt revolver in very good condition.  [jet]
